Furious action at VMCC Championships

There were 40 races held as part of the VMCC British Historic Racing Championships 2012 on August 11-12.

Fastest lap of the weekend in the Classic Racer magazine BEARS race on Sunday, 80.86mph, went to Rob Lawton on his Laverda.

Other strong performers were Mervyn Stratford on his Rudges, Scott Harris on his Norton Kirby, Ron Paget, Guzzi, and the BMWs of Ben Kingham and Ron Maul.

The solo specials race for pre-1973 machines over 500cc was contested by Tim Woolley and Gary Irons on their ‘Triples’ and Sunday’s race for three-wheelers produced the closest finish of the weekend with Neil Smith and Greg Bibby crossing the line for third place with 1/10th second between them.

The Sunday encounter between 350cc and 250cc machines for the Palletforce and the Goodwin Championships held the crowd’s attention with Nick Bedford, Seb Perez and Mervyn Stratford challenging for the lead right up to the flag.

The absence of some of the riders at the tops of the tables means that most of the championship places will now be decided at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire on September 29-30.
