Youngster William Grant, pictured with dad Mick, took his first win with the CRMC at the recent Darley meeting.
The 17-year-old followed up a couple of 3rd places with a masterclass in the rain in the final race, winning by over three seconds.
William’s smooth style, noticed by many experienced observers last year, paid off in the wet when he took the lead on the third lap and was never headed again.
Last year was William’s first full season, and a successful one too, winning the BHR 125 Open Class on his 1985 ND4 RS Honda.
He secured the championship with two rounds to spare and in addition picked up the club’s trophy for best newcomer, and had wins and lap records at Mallory and Darley.
This year brought a move to the sterner test of CRMC competition; after Cadwell and Darley, William was lying third in the championship and very much looking forward to Pembrey, now sadly cancelled due to Covid-19.
Always eager to learn and develop, William spent an evening back at Cadwell Park, taking up Tom Hayward’s very generous offer of some tuition at a track day.
Under Tom’s expert guidance, William reduced his personal best down by another six seconds. Keep an eye on this youngster for the future.
