A great classic feast

Gary Johnson showed true grit on the John Chapman MV

The Isle of Man section of the VMCC Festival of Jurby, a great example of what a small, dedicated, team can achieve, is now firmly established as a major event and this year’s crowds brought the north of the Island to a standstill.

Any fears about how the current TT stars would acquit themselves on classic machinery were quickly laid to rest; in fact there were several examples of true classic spirit.

Michael Dunlop’s patient wait in the pit lane while team Molnar fixed a slipping clutch and his epic ride back up the leader board was matched by Gary Johnson’s determination when pushing John Chapman’s MV almost to the top of Bray Hill. Once it fired up, unbeknown to his crew Johnson completed the race with only three gears. And he still finished with a huge grin on his face and vowed to be back for more next year.

You can read the full story and all the race reports on page 66 of the current (Nov/Dec 2013) issue.
