• Meanwhile John Surtees: My Incredible Life on Two and Four Wheels has won the first Royal Automobile Club, Motoring Book of the Year award.

At a ceremony at the Pall Mall clubhouse, as the climax of the inaugural Motoring Literary Festival on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, club chairman Tom Purves, who presented the award said: “This book is exactly the type of title we want our Award to recognise. It is a fascinating story, entertaining and personable, with wonderful pictures, and comes from a new publisher who demonstrates great faith in the printed word. John Surtees, Mike Nicks and Evro deserve our hearty congratulations.”

One of the judges, Henry Hope-Frost of Autosport, echoed the sentiment by saying: “John Surtees – My Incredible Life on Two and Four Wheels cleverly bridges the gap between multiple world champion superstar and ordinary bloke, with every endearing word coming across as though it was told directly to the reader by the great man over a fireside glass of red.”

Classic Racer at Telford
Classic Racer will have a presence at the Putoline Classic Dirt Bike Show, run over the weekend of February 21-22, at the International Centre Shropshire.

Details are still being finalised, but road racing Guests of Honour will be the Flitwick Motorcycles Team Linsdell. Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT winner, Olie Linsdell, will bring along the Classic TT winning Paton and his father, TT rostrum man Steve the World’s fastest Royal Enfield. Both will appear on stage interviewed by Julian Ryder and weather permitting the Paton will be fired up.

In association with the National Motorcycle Museum, there will be a display of racing Nortons through the ages, many of which will be paraded in a special parade which will celebrate the marque’s TT history during the 2015 Classic TT.

Also on display, and due to be fired up, is the ex-John McGuinness 2000 TT Vimto Honda SP1, along with a 1996 Terry Rymer Old Spice Ducati 955, both part of Mike West’s collection.
